install_wim_tweak_NET4.6.exe
SOURCE
win6x_registry_tweak_src_v1.4.7.zip
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before i start i have to say that this tool was originally released by wnuku and that i have just updated it with extra features, colours and bug fixes.
The original concept was by Aviv00.
This little tool un-hides "packages" like Windows Media Center/Player, IE, IIS, Games, etc... so you can lower the size of your install.wim
Top left is un-hiding a specific package, top right is writing the log of available files to a txt file, bottom left is un-hiding all components of an image and finally the bottom right is un-hiding all the packages from current installed OS.
install_wim_tweak.exe /?
This will show all available options..
install_wim_tweak.exe /p <MountPath>
This will unhide all the packages in the selected image
install_wim_tweak.exe /o
This will unhide all the packages on the currently installed OS
install_wim_tweak.exe /p <MountPath> /l
This will list all the packages available in the selected image and write them to a text file in the same directory.
install_wim_tweak.exe /o /l
This will list all the packages available on the installed OS and write them to a text file in the same directory.
install_wim_tweaks.exe /p <MountPath> /c Microsoft-Windows-.........
This will just inhide the selected component from the selected image, can also be used with /o. If you add /r at the end it will remove the package.
Changes made from the original version by wnuku
*/h will restore them to default (must use without /h first)
*/n will not create backups (faster)
*/d will not delete owners keys.
*/m is no longer needed, will do the task by default
*/l will output a list of all packages to a text file.
*/o will use currently installed image.
*fixed a bug where it did not work if there was a space in the mountpath.
*/c <PackageName> will un-hide specific package
* using /r with /c will remove the package
*Win32Security.dll file is no longer needed
*Added new colours, errors are displayed in Red
*Fixed bug crashing at end of running
*Fixed bug where it cannot unmount registry if something fails
*Added specific component selection
*Fixed some other bugs
*Added an appropriate small icon for the app
Also normally you will have to put the specific component name i.e.
"/c Microsoft-Hyper-V-Common-Drivers-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7601.17514"
but if for example you put "/c Microsoft-Hyper-V-Common-Drivers-Package" it will show all packages starting with that.
F.A.Q
If you have any questions let me know...
thought i might as well do a separate guide for this one too
tools required: ImageX from WAIK for Vista sp1/server 2008 (do not use WAIK 7), install wim tweak (credit to BM wnuku) , vlite 1.2, my batch file
x86
x86 guide is now updated (24/10/09)
http://www.4shared.com/file/143270619/ed9e2878/x86guide.html
updated batch file (17/11/09): this should be final???
x64
x64 guide finally up in pdf format!
http://www.4shared.com/file/140271670/4b4c4aa2/x64guide.html
updated batch file (29/10/09): as there doesn't seem to be many errors reported, i guess this is the final version for x64 removal!
use the above guide but the batch files from the attachment!
Server R2 Enterprise
removed as working on a new batch? will be removing more dotnet files & wlan/printer support is enabled! i could get the wim to under 700mb if printer & wlan removed
new batch (05/12/09): with this I was able to get the install to under 2gb without pagefile & keeping printer support. wlan was removed by vlite so you can keep it if you wish.
http://www.4shared.com/file/166240970/9ef9.../server64e.html
optional for server r2: if you slipstream the following updates KB973525, KB974332, KB974431, KB974455, KB974571, KB975364, KB975467, KB976098 & KB976749 via te /add-package command, then apply this removal batch to clear the old files. ive also included the add-package batch file which you will need to edit to point to the correct file location for the update/msu files. i recommend you rename the update files by their kb article name?
wmp12 x64 removal for server: this removes most of wmp x64 from server but but retains some x64 compatibility. (this is for a fresh copy without any updates)
ps in all my batch files, there is no recovery option so be aware
Update (06/04/10)
this is the final release, i hope, of my removal guides! I tried to remove as much as i can without losing too much functionality! Media center is still a no go so i would advise to try Liquid's guide. of course, you are more than welcome to edit the files for your needs. to some peeps though, who have taken the files and then posted on other sites as their own, a big F-U! it took a lot of time and testing to make these files so please give credit to wheres its due!
http://www.4shared.com/file/258437817/49963db0/guide7R2.html
Update (18/08/10)
a refresh of the guide is up along with new sets of batch files. nothing too major regarding changes except the batch files now include clearing of most of the winsxs folder without the use of vlite. also the update batch files have been updated to include all ms updates since rtm til this month. this will also be my last set til sp1 is released. i hope to do a proper makeover of the files as currently, especially the r2 file, it is very messy, when sp1 is finally out. i will only focus on Ultimate x64 & R2 so no x86 support but I will post a special laptop edition of x86 based on Ultimate.
http://www.4shared.com/file/XUrNpgVE/guidev35.html
Update (13/09/10)
a final refresh is up of the guide. Hopefully this will be the last one til sp1
http://www.4shared.com/file/w-JmhJvS/guide35refresh.html
Updates (note some of these updates have been superceded by new ones so check the addx86/64.bat files for exact files - you may have to seach MS for them)
x86: http://www.4shared.com/file/ktaMm869/x86updates.html
x64: http://www.4shared.com/file/ox_2Om_e/x64updates.html
KB947821: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
password for the 7z/zip is dead0@msfn
i finally made a universal guide for 7 ultimate x86/x64 and R2 so do make sure you read it carefully!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pre-SP1
this is only for a clean version of 7 ultimate x86/x64 and server r2 enterprise so no updates required (haven't tested with updates yet)
http://www.4shared.com/file/i6QkF18q/win7r2.html
you can still use the guide from the previous batch as it still follows the same procedure. i have only removed a minimal amount in vlite so you can remove more. but with this version, do not remove the winsxs folder with vlite, let the batch files do it.
a few notes:
all versions now keep netfx3, powershell removed
x86: media center retained, media streaming should work with wmp12, homegroup should be working (make sure you don't remove windows collaboration in vlite), game explorer retained (untested)
x64: media streaming should work with wmp12, homegroup should be working (make sure you don't remove windows collaboration in vlite), no media center, game explorer retained (untested)
r2: n/a
these batches are still in a testing phase. this set is more of a "not-so extreme" removal method. average install size is about x86: 1.6gb, x64 and r2: 2.5gb with pagefile/hiberfile removed.

Hey
here a script that can make your life a bit easier
cmd:
dism /Append-Image /ImageFile:backup.wim /CaptureDir:d:\work\
wim\ /name:Name /ConfigFile:Wimscript.ini
script:
http://www.speedyshare.com/MQx9A/Wimscript.zip
just after u done setting ur windows u can run this script to save around 2GB and time compressing
btw its for 32bit its should work on 64bit too
how to apply it:
1. make a copy of install.wim
2. mount install.wim
3. use WTK first then remove metro with dism [optional]
4. run the cmd
5. then export it to new file to get the space back
Here ya' go:
My pleasure, don't mention it. Any time. Oh c'mon you didn't have to; they are so nice. They smell nice too, almost like bits.
Updates:
09.12.2008. - 1.2 Final
This is a GENERAL roadmap for using Vlite 1.2 against Windows 7, This is just a roadmap (Updated on June 10, 2009)
As far as I know we need to keep the following (please add to the list if you know of any more)
(Do not select Unattended Setup as it will error during install or try to add hotfixes, this is due to vlite not being designed for 7 but for vista)
(Do not remove anything from hardware support, it causes a plethora of problems)
(Do not remove drivers either, windows 7 has a slightly different driver style than vista, it wont use all vista drivers, specifically it needs the storage drivers)
(KEEP OR INSTALL WILL FAIL)
*Component Cache winsxs
*Internet Explorer
*Microsoft HTML Engine
*Performance Counters
*Crash Dump Support
*manual setup (something to do with sources folder, being investigated by myself)
*SQM Software Quality Management (needed for installing Windows 7, and for hotfixes)
^Task Scheduler (needed for SQM and Defrag)
*UAC
*MDAC
*Windows Update
^Bits
^IPSEC
*Error Reporting
(SAFE TO DELETE) As in wont break install and the system should function on its own OK without these.
*Languages (keep C_949.nls for KMPlayer)
*Accessibility (keep if you need Tablet support)
*Character Map
*Disk Cleanup (keep if your going use SAT)
*Games
*Mobility Center
*Notepad
*Paint
*Wordpad
*Sidebar and Gadgets
*Welcome Center
*Speech Support
*System Information
*Snipping Tool (keep if you need touch/tablet)
*Floppy Disk Support (Unless you love those 3.5" little guys)
*iSCSI Support (I couldn't even find a NAS on newegg that needed this)
*Smart Card support
*Media Center
*Media Metadata Handler (no more video thumbnails)
*Music and Video Samples
*Photo Metadata Handler (No more photo thumbnails)
*Sample Pictures
*Screensavers
*Shell Event Sounds
*Sideshow (if you have a little screen on the outside of your notebook keep)
*Sound Recorder
*Aero Theme (it does make the interface snappier but at the cost of consuming video memory)
*Windows Media Codecs (needed for wmp)
*Windows Media Player (once again some games need these)
*Connect to a Network Projector
*DFS
*Internet Information Services
*Remote Desktop Assistance
*Remote Desktop Client
*RIP Listener
*Simple TCPIP Services
*Telnet Server
*Telnet Client
*TFTP Client
*SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol
*Windows Collaboration (not really there but will delete useless pre-final files)
*Windows Mail (not really all there in 7 and will mess up mht support)
*Desktop Window Manager (needed for aero when this is running a small portion of video memory will be consumed)
*Offline Files
*Protected Storage
*Quality Windows Audio Video (needed for media center)
*Remote Registry
*Superfetch (the OS will still use up all memory but will be available for programs)
*WebDAV
*Windows Search (system will still search)
*Windows Time (computer may or may not lose time)
*Beep (the little in-case speaker)
*Bitlocker Drive Encryption (needs TPM to operate)
*DRM (if you keep WMP keep this)
*Disk Quota
*Help
*Imapiv2 (might be needed for zune?)
*Microsoft Client for NFS
*Message Queue
*Natural Language (will kill voice/speech)
*Parental Controls
*Run a legacy CPL elevated
*Security Center
*SUA
*Sync Center
*System Restore (will kill windows backup)
*Tablet PC (inkball will die)
*Windows Defender
*Windows Easy Transfer (No longer able to upgrade)
*Windows SAT (must turn windows aero on manually if removed)
*Zip Folder
(RECOMMENDED NOT TO DELETE or there could be BAD consequences)
*File and Printer Sharing Server
*Link-Layer Topology Discovery
*Network and Sharing Center
*Network Explorer
*Windows Firewall (most of the other networking features need this)
*Application Experience (Will be VERY annoying if removed)
*Computer Browser
*DHCP (....)
*Windows Remote Management (I know this can be deleted but it will open up a whole new can of worms so I wouldnt)
*Event Log
*Dynamic Volume Manager (Windows Backup needs this, cant remove windows backup yet, so I would leave it.)
*Distributed Link Tracking Client
*DTC
*DNS Client
*EAP (Wireless)
*ICS Internet Connection Sharing
*Interactive Services Detection
*IP Helper (IPv6)
*Multimedia Class Scheduler
*NAP (Wireless Internet)
*Network List Service
*NLA Network Location Awareness
*Remote Access Auto Connection Manager (needed for VPNs)
*Remote Access Connection Manager (VPNs as well)
*Routing and Remote Access (VPNs as well)
*Secondary Logon
*SSTP
*SSDP Discovery
*TCP/IP netbios helper
*Telephony
*UnPNP Universal Plug and Play
*Usermode Driver Framework
*Volume Shadow Copy (cant remove windows backup)
*Windows Color System
*Windows Connect Now
*Jet Database engine
*remote differential compression
*Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
*Game Explorer
*Reliability and Performance Monitor
*Diagnostics
(I know im saying to keep all the networking but believe me its for the best, all these items are tied together you remove one and you remove them all, which means no PnP, no vpns and no firewall, and theres only like 3 x64 firewalls in existence.)
(UNABLE TO DELETE not in the list) Due to limitations of Vlite and the Windows 7 WIM
*Disk Defragmenter
*Windows Photo related programs
*Calculator
*Drivers (or so I have heard vlite wont delete them even though you selected them)
*Windows Backup
*Windows DVD Maker
This is everything that is listed for removal on the 7RC.
Also on Windows Server 2008 R2 (Based on 7) is ALOT more lenient towards removal, so server 2008 r2 needs a different list.
Hello.
I may have joined the wrong forum since I am not a tech,or programmer. But I searched hyper-V-common-drivers-package and found this forum so I joined.
Here is my issue. I am almost done running a system restore, and the program stopped while installing the Microsoft-hyper-V-common-drivers-package. It did not just slow down, the rate indicator (e.g. 1.2GB/min) is no longer even visible, and all visible data is static and has been for about 10 minutes now.
The reason I am running the restore software is that I ran a free program called Glary Utilities which cleans up your system, and after running this program, I found that I my yahoo email screen would not load completely. Glary Utilities cleans your registry of items which point nowhere, so it says. Unfortunately, I did not back up the system immediately prior to running the program.
But I have a Toshiba 1T backup drive, so I decided to restore from that. I got most of the way through and hit this problem. I am attaching a photo of my screen to show you what it looks like.
If anyone reading this has any insights you would like to share, please do so. And thanks.

im planning on installing vista on my computer that's on it's way but i wanted to make an updated iso first to make it easier (with every update integrated) is this even possible with vlite? if anyone could help with this it would be very much appreciated
